ZTL - Restricted Traffic Zone
1. Riomaggiore
The ZTL (): It begins just after the upper part of the village. The entire road down toward the town center and marina is closed to non-residents. How it works: You can drive only as far as the entrance to the village, where you can park. Where to park: There is a covered parking garage, Rio Park , with approximately 60 spaces and a maximum vehicle height of 1.95 m (6 ft 5 in). The cost is €3.50 per hour or €35 per day . If the garage is full, you will need to turn around and park along the hairpin bends of the coastal road, following the signs carefully to avoid being towed. [ 1 , 2 , 3 , 4 ]
2. Manarola
The ZTL (Restricted Traffic Zone): The village is completely pedestrianized. Driving beyond the entrance barrier is permitted only for residents and authorized emergency or commercial vehicles. [ 1 , 2 ] How it works: The road ends abruptly at the entrance to the village, where the parking areas are located. [ 1 ] Where to park: There are two paid parking areas, Posella and Acquarino , about a 10–15 minute walk from the village center. Rates are approximately €2.50 per hour or €20 per day . Alternatively, you can park along the scenic road before reaching the village, but only in designated spaces. [ 1 , 2 , 3 ]
3. Corniglia
The ZTL (Restricted Traffic Zone): As the most isolated village, perched high on a cliff, Corniglia has extremely narrow streets that are completely closed to tourist traffic. [ 1 , 2 ] How it works: Driving through the village is not physically possible. The ZTL covers the entire historic village center. [ 1 ] Where to park: There is a public parking area with approximately 60 spaces located about 500 meters (1,640 feet) before the entrance to the village. The cost is €2.50 per hour or €20 per day . From the parking area, you must walk into the village center. [ 1 ]
4. Vernazza
The ZTL (Restricted Traffic Zone): Vernazza has some of the strictest restrictions, enforced by cameras operating 24/7 on Via Roma . Driving down into the village is strictly prohibited. How it works: The road to Vernazza is extremely narrow and winding. Once you pass the designated parking areas, you reach an electronic access checkpoint. Where to park: About 1 km (0.6 miles) before the village, you will find Parcheggio Vernazza , with approximately 50 spaces. The cost is €2.50 per hour or €20 per day . The fee includes a convenient shuttle bus service that takes you directly to the village center, saving you the downhill walk—and, especially, the uphill walk back. [ 1 , 2 , 3 ]
5. Monterosso al Mare
The ZTL (Restricted Traffic Zone): Monterosso is divided into two areas: Fegina, the newer section with the beach, and the Old Town. The ZTL covers the entire historic center. [ 1 ] How it works: To enter the Old Town ZTL (for example, if you are staying at a hotel inside th erestricted area and need to unload your luggage), there is a municipal access fee of €5 per day for vehicles less than 2 meters (6 ft 7 in) wide, or €10 per day for vehicles wider than 2 meters. During the peak season, access may be completely prohibited because of overcrowding. Where to park: Monterosso is the only village where parking is relatively easier to find, although parking lots fill up quickly in the summer: Parcheggio Fegina (on the waterfront): more than 300 spaces, outside the ZTL. The cost is €2 per hour or €15 per day . Parcheggio Loreto (near the Old Town): located at the edge of the ZTL, with approximately 100 spaces. The cost is €2 per hour or €18 per day .
