Tellaro - Lerici
Experience the magic of Tellaro, a postcard-perfect destination with sun-soaked beaches and historic charm
Nestled among the cliffs of the Gulf of Poets, the fishing village of
Tellaro stands as a remarkable gem along the Ligurian coast. This quaint
settlement, part of the municipality of Lerici, serves as a source of
inspiration for artists, poets, and writers, drawn to the tranquil
ambiance created by its pastel-colored houses reflecting on the sea and
the narrow alleys that lead to unexpected beauty.
Tellaro retains its
ancient charm, providing visitors with authentic experiences and
impressions, far removed from mass tourism. Mario Soldati famously
remarked on Tellaro: “It is a place that cannot be merely passed
through. It is a destination one arrives at. A bit like the end, one of
the ends of the world. You arrive, and that is it: you have arrived!
There is a unique sense of calm and closure.”
Overlooking the sea, the
Church of San Giorgio, built in the 16th century on the remnants of an
ancient Genoese fortification, dominates the village and offers
breathtaking views of the Gulf of Poets. It is also steeped in legend,
as the tale of a giant octopus, which clung to a rope and rang the bells
to warn the villagers of a Saracen attack, has been passed down through
generations. Participating in the "Luoghi del Cuore" census organized
by FAI* presents a significant opportunity to highlight the uniqueness of
this village and to actively support the restoration of the Church of
San Giorgio. Voting for Tellaro and its church means contributing to the
preservation of a heritage rich in history, beauty, and roots for
future generations.
