The FIFA World Cup 2026 will be the twenty-third edition of the World Cup (the fourteenth under the name "FIFA World Cup"). It will be held for the first time in three nations: Canada, Mexico, and the United States of America
This event will see the expansion from 32 to 48 participants. It will be divided into a group stage, with twelve groups of four teams each, and a knockout stage, with the top two teams from each group plus the eight best third-placed teams fighting for advancement in the round of 16, for a total of 104 matches.
The 2026 FIFA World Cup will kick off on June 11, with Mexico facing South Africa at the Estadio Azteca in Mexico City starting at 13:00 UTC-6, and conclude on July 19, with the first-place match at MetLife Stadium in New York City starting at 15:00 UTC-4.
It will be the second time, after the edition of 2002 held in South Korea and Japan, that the tournament will be hosted by more than one country. Counting the editions of 1970 and 1986, Mexico will become the first nation to host the World Cup for the third time. For the United States of America, it will be the second time (after 1994), while for Canada, it will be the very first time. All three national teams have qualified for the tournament by right.
After the previous edition held between November and December of 2022, this edition of the FIFA World Cup will take place again between June and July.
